Early, frequent, and prolonged skin-to-skin care (SSC) promotes breastfeeding readiness, initiation, and duration, as well as physiological stability, immune protection, neurodevelopment, and emotional well-being for hospitalized preterm and term newborns. The benefits to parents are equally well-documented. This session will explore why internationally agreed-upon goals for SSC are challenging to meet and will highlight innovations and motivations for promoting SSC in hospital settings.
